we had some new arrivals to the rescue on Saturday afternoon, namely a young cross breed mum, and her 5 new born pup's, just 4 day's old. Mia was left tied to a fence in pouring rain in London, heavily pregnant. She was taken to the pound, where she gave birth the following day to 6 pup's, unfortunatly the runt did not make it. An appeal was put out for someone to take her and the pup's, but no-one local could take her, as everywhere is full to bursting, so she came to us. They arrived late on Sat. afternoon, and apart from Mia being very underweight, she seemed ok. We settled her down with her babies, and gave her some food. Sunday morning, we found that she had been very sick, and had bloody poo's, and was a very poorly girl. She was rushed to the vet's, where she was given injections and medication. The vet said she is very underweight, has a calcium deficency, has a very high tempreture, and no milk to feed her pup's. We are now having to hand rear the pup's, and at the moment, they are doing fine. She was bought back to the rescue, and we tried to get fluids into her, but she could not keep anything down. By 6.30pm, she was going downhill fast, so we rushed her back to the vet's, and she is now on a drip, the vet's said it is touch and go if she will make it. Please keep her in your thoughts and pray she will pull through. You may now be thinking, so what is so URGENT. Well, when i rang the vet last night to say she needed to go back, they refused to treat her, unless i took money with me to pay off some of the vet bill. They are also refusing to treat anymore of the dog's untill a large amount is paid off. We managed to scrape together £200 to take to the vet, so they would treat Mia. Our vet bill at the moment is now £1500, and they want at least £1000 NOW. We have had so much expence at the vet's of late, with Grace for all her treatment for her skin, and Bobby having an emergency operation for Pyometra, as well as our usual neutering and vaccinations for the others. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, if you can spare anything at all to help with the vet bill, it would be so appreciated. If anyone can maybe do a raffle at work, or if you have anything we can sell to raise the money, we so desperatly need it. I know you all do what you can to help us, and without you, the rescue could not continue, but if you can help us in anyway, it would be so much appreciated. Thank you.

Elaine, so sorry you are having such a worrying time, poor little Mia, bloody owners want hanging!! We will try our best to get over to the kennels this week with some stuff to sell and I know it's only a drop in the ocean but we can spare £100. I just can't bear the thought of the dogs not getting treated by the vets. Will do some more sorting but I think it might be Thursday before we can see you as it's a bit hectic here at the moment.

It's getting worse, the vet's want to put mum to sleep, as they say she is only alive due to the drip. She is still being sick, but her poo's are now a dark green, rather than bloody. They also said she is bright when they take her out for a wee. They also said the bill for her so far is £500, and it would be better spent on other dog's, rather than on her that she may not make it. I get the feeling that they want to pts her, to stop the bill from getting any higher, in case we cannot pay it. Just to make matters worse, one of the pup's is not feeding very well, and i am afraid that we may lose her. Why is it alway's about money? How do you choose between a dog's life, and money. She may not make it, but we have to try don't we? I am so tired, and feeling so sick with worry, i just do not know what to do. Please help.

Hi Elaine,
I have just phoned the kennel and spoken to Annalise - I've also sent a PM to dodledeedle.
I'll just say: Remember the gentle giant Porter last year? You were all so heart broken then aswell! Its shattering to loose a life and especially a dogs life. It sounds like the vets cannot see a light at the end of the tunnel for Mia, you guys have to try and see the logic the vet is trying to show you. If she cannot funtion/have life without the drip then her last litter was possibly too much for her! Her poor little body just can't cope.
Sorry Elaine but you have to make the call - I would never change places with you - BUT you have to know that which ever choice you make, all the barkonline members are here and will surport you in whatever you decide.

Elaine (and everyone) Reading this has brought tears to my eyes, it is heartbreaking I really do not envy you, being in your position you care greatly for all these animals and I am sure feel very responsible for them all, even when things are beyond your control..... what a nightmare! BUT You must never feel guilty, all of you who work tirelessly to look after these animals, and to raise money are trying your hardest, no one can ever doubt your dedication and love for them. Sometimes saying goodbye is the hardest thing to do, but maybe, like some of the others have said, the kindest in the end? I am at work tomorrow and have to take my son to a Hospital appointment for 4pm in Sheffield, but will drop some cash off on my way to Sheffield. I hope you find some peace with yourself and your decision and we will all support you.

What a lovely compassionate vet,I don't think.Sometimes when you watch them on tv they are all caring and kind and do all they can to save a life when in reality as you say its all about money. I do agree with what others have said but I think that at least she deserves a chance and it may also be because she is away from her babies, look how new mums are so protective of their brood.she may be worrying about them. Try not to take it to heart,I know its easier said than done but we all know that whatever happens you will all have given your best for her. xx

Why can't one of us just win the lottery? Money isn't going to save them all but it is so sad that it has to impact life and death decisions in this way. I for one am getting a ticket this weekend in the hope that someone upstairs sends some luck our way.

Have been to the vets today, but was not able to see mum, as she is in isolation. She is still on the drip, and had bloody poo's again this morning, however, she has not been sick today, and does seem much brighter in herself. They are now happy to continue with the drip, (plus i took them some money to pay some off the bill), they are trying to get her to eat something, but so far she has not eaten anything. All the pup's are well at the moment and suckling, fingers crossed it continues this way, as i know only to well how very quickly pup's can deteriorate. We have had many donations come in, but no where near enough for all the treatment that it is costing. I wish to thank you all for your donations, and your continued support for this poor girl. I only learned today, that when she was abandoned, she was actually left out all night tied to the fence in the pouring rain, untill she was found the following morning. The thought just breaks my heart, no wonder she is so poorly. Anyone wishing to donate to us through paypal can, at elaine@barkonline.co.uk Once again thank you.

Thank you Ruth. The vet has just rang me with an update on her, saying she has had an up and down day. She said she is happy at the moment to continue with the treatment, as thre is a hope she may pull through, it's about 25% at the moment. They are looking at keeping her on the drip for at least another 5 day's, if she continues the way she is. I have explained to the vet, that we have appeals out for her, and that people are kindly donating toward her treatment, so we will get the money for her. Please keep her in your thoughts, and pray she will pull through. Life is much more precious than money.
