A week ago I got a young male staffy(Tye) from Sheffield pound,he is about 2yrs old and hasn't been neutered & he constantly tries to mount my dog Moo which leads to almost constant growling & Moo sitting with his back to the wall.
Tye is booked to be neutered next friday, will this calm him down & ease him up on the mounting or is this going to be a permanent thing?
It's driving me nuts if I'm honest

It is common for puppies to mount each other, this is part play, part practise for maturity and helps to establish the pecking order. It can also be triggered by excitement and insecurity both behaviours you want to eliminate if that is the case. If its play, Moo would not be showing dissaproval. In his case at 2yrs it seems more likely an attempt to dominate. As pack leader you need to step in and demonstrate clearly to both dogs that you are in charge, show your position is not up for tender, Moo needs to know you will protect him, Tye that you will not be challenged. If Tye learns that he can control the pack, neutering won't make a difference. Set the rules now.

Thankyou...I have been stepping in but wasn't sure if I was making things worse.

Getting him neuterd will make a difference also, but it can take anything up to 12 months to see a change. Andy is right in him mounting your other dog, he is showing his dominance, make sure you let him know, you are the top dog.
